In 1980’s Los Angeles, it was Sinclair Paint vs. Dunn Edwards Paints. Unknown to most homeowners and painting contractors, both companies used an identical color system. Colors were named and numbered differently on each fan deck, but Sinclair and Dunn Edwards’ color curator chose hues from the same color deck maker. If you are looking for authentic color inspiration from the early 1980’s, it can be found on either color deck.
The decks were printed by Colwell General Inc. This firm still makes fan decks for Dunn Edwards, Sherwin Williams, Benjamin Moore, Behr, PPG, Kelly Moore, and many other paint companies.
