The Tampa Bay Buccaneers joined the NFL in 1976 with a red and orange color scheme; known as their creamsicle uniforms. The colors were as horrid as the team’s early play. The Bucs set an NFL record with 26 straight losses from 1976-1977. In 1977, the team unveiled its new color scheme, featuring a primary red and secondary pewter.
Pewter had never before been used by an NFL team, and to this day, the Bucs are the only team to wear the color. Immediately after the Buccaneers’ new colors were introduced, the team’s fortunes turned around. That same year, the team posted a franchise record 10 wins, and hosted their first playoff game. A few years later, the Buccaneers won their first Super Bowl (XXXVII) and their new colors.
