Anything you find beautiful can be used to create a color or decorating scheme. August color inspiration comes from vibrant, sunny yellow flowers, like these cheerful black-eyed Susans and sunflowers. Let their radiant hues brighten your day and warm your walls.
Black-eyed Susan is a North American flowering plant native to Eastern and Central North America and naturalized throughout the continent. It can be found in all 10 Canadian Provinces as well as all the 48 contiguous United States.
Sunflowers are annual or perennial plants that can grow to a height of 120 inches. Each “flower” is really a disc made up of tiny flowers, to form a larger false flower to better attract pollinators. While the majority of sunflowers are yellow, there are varieties in other colors including orange, red and purple.
Before blooming, Sunflower heads tilt to face the sun. This movement is called heliotropism, which continues for a short time when flower buds form and the flower heads track the sun. At night, the flower heads reorient and face east in anticipation of the sunrise. Sunflowers move back to their original position between 3AM and 6AM.
