Home Air Conditioning Management keeps the air in your house cleaner, and prevents some, but not all, costly maintenance bills. The unit system as a whole needs annual professional check-ups in addition to the maintenance that we suggest here.
Replacing Air Condition Filters
Air filters pull pollutants like dust, pollen, dirt, mold, animal fur, bacteria, etc., out of the air. Over time, germs and dust clog the filter and the air register (see below). Before replacing air condition filters, first clean the metal air intake register.
Especially in the summer, replacing air filters in Los Angeles keeps electricity costs down and your air conditioning unit from over-working. Write the date on the filter when you install it and replace it every two-three months.
Pictured here are two different filters for different sized air intakes. Sizes are written on the package. They have to match the size of the register and fit snugly in its opening. As can be read on the label, the manufacturer recommends replacing the filter every 60-90 days.
Cleaning Behind Air Conditioner
The space behind an air conditioner is a neglected area where leaves and debris can build up. It is important to keep this area clean for several reasons. Ask your gardener to blow this area clean as part of his weekly maintenance tasks. Additionally, keeping the area behind your air conditioner clean prevents moisture accumulation and rat nesting.
Air Register Cleaning
Air registers are usually placed in the ceiling or wall of each room. Here is a before and after picture of an air register. Keeping your register clean saves money and makes your house look well maintained.
