Replace Smoke and Carbon Monoxide alarm batteries at least once a year. These alarms have a typical lifespan of 7-10 years. New models have an end-of-life warning beep that signals it is time to replace the alarm. Take the old one with you to the hardware store and make sure you replace it with the same model.
